Job Description

The purpose of an IT Technician job is to provide technical support and assistance to ensure the efficient operation of an organization's computer systems, networks, and related technology infrastructure. IT Technicians are responsible for troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software issues, configuring and maintaining computer systems and peripherals, and ensuring smooth communication and connectivity across the organization.

Functional Duties (up to 15)

1. Technical Support: - Responding to user inquiries and providing technical assistance via phone, email, or in-person. - Troubleshooting hardware and software issues and resolving them in a timely manner. - Diagnosing and resolving network connectivity problems. - Assisting users with setting up and configuring computer systems, software applications, and peripherals.

2. Hardware and Software Maintenance: - Installing, configuring, and upgrading computer hardware components such as CPUs, memory, and hard drives. - Installing and updating software applications, drivers, and operating systems. - Conducting regular preventive maintenance tasks, such as cleaning computer equipment and ensuring proper ventilation.

3. Network Management: - Assisting in the setup and configuration of local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs). - Troubleshooting network issues and ensuring network connectivity. - Assisting in the installation and configuration of network devices such as routers, switches, and wireless access points.

4. Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: - Maintaining documentation of hardware and software inventory, system configurations, and troubleshooting procedures. - Creating user guides and knowledge base articles to assist users in resolving common technical issues. - Keeping up-to-date records of IT assets and licenses.

5. User Training and Education: - Conducting training sessions and workshops to educate users on technology best practices. - Providing guidance and assistance to users in adopting new technologies and software applications. - Promoting IT security awareness and educating users about potential risks and preventive measures.

6. Collaboration and Communication: - Collaborating with other IT team members and departments to resolve complex technical issues. - Coordinating with external vendors for hardware repairs, and technical support. - Communicating effectively with users, providing clear and concise instructions and guidance.

Skills

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
  • Knowledge of operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux) and familiarity with their administration and configuration.
  • Understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Experience with computer hardware assembly, installation, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of IT security principles and best practices.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with users and explain technical concepts.
  • Problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
  • Customer service orientation and the ability to provide a positive user experience.
  • Time management and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and keep up with industry trends.
