As a major contractor engaged in design and construction of large-scale projects globally, Bechtel has delivered projects in some of the most ambitious ground conditions; thus, we are looking to add to its India offices geotechnical engineers seeking ambitious projects requiring geotechnical investigation program development and execution, design of complex ground improvement systems, deep foundation design and installation, advanced finite element modelling for geotechnical analysis, and other geotechnical-related project activities.

Position Summary

This position will provide field support as needed, originate/check analytical calculations and numerical modeling, specifications and reports associated with various projects spanning all of Bechtel’s business units. The successful candidate will report to the Geotechnical Engineering Manager or a designated Senior/Principal Engineer and may also serve as the Geotechnical Engineering Group Supervisor for the India offices. The successful candidate will be expected to support multiple projects but may also be assigned to one project. Position will be based in one of Bechtel’s India offices. Candidate will be expected to travel to job sites and other Bechtel and client offices in India and abroad for periods of time ranging from days to months.

Responsibilities

Role requires field support of geotechnical investigations, review of site and subsurface geotechnical investigations data, origination/checking/approval of geotechnical engineering designs and specifications, origination/checking/approval of geotechnical studies for multiple projects in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements and field support of geotechnical construction activities. Work will require Coordinating with geotechnical engineers and technical disciplines in a team, including:

• Geotechnical design parameters for soil and/or rock supported foundations
• Bearing capacity and settlement calculations
• Soil liquefaction assessments and mitigation
• Ground improvement and pile design and installation.
• Analyze foundation settlement and stability of soil and rock.
• Soil and/or rock excavations support calculations
• Engineering specifications including earthworks, piling, ground improvement, soil and/or rock excavation support, etc.
• Technical memo, study, report writing, vendor submittal review and integration into design solution.
• Coordination with technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.
• Participating in and promoting technical excellence activities such as holding membership and being active in professional organizations, writing and presenting technical papers, etc.

Qualifications

• M.S. degree in Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited university and minimum 11 years of related experience or a Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering and minimum 9 years of related experience

Additional Qualifications

• Experience includes, but is not limited to, performing site and subsurface geotechnical investigations, geotechnical engineering designs and specifications, preparing/checking geotechnical calculations, studies for power plants, infrastructure, industrial process facilities or complex building systems.
• Obtain legal work permit in India without sponsorship, possess Microsoft Office skills, communication, engineering, automation, industry codes, and industry-standard geotechnical software experience.
• Understanding geotechnical engineering design principles application, site and subsurface investigation, development of engineering properties of soil and rock, foundation design and analysis, foundation analysis under dynamic loads and earthworks
• Knowledge of ground improvement techniques, pile installation, testing, numerical analysis using FEM and FDM, soil and/or rock slope stability, construction specifications
• Engineering registration/certification (Geotechnical or related Engineering), as applicable, outside of India.
• Prior experience working on large industrial/infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of soil liquefaction analysis, construction dewatering
